Plenary #158): THE NEED FOR A RADICAL EMPIRICISM / SEEING THROUGH THE HEART

If we cannot find truth within ourselves, or trust the inner knowing that is the essence of our true self, ~ we can never fashion a reliable science. For a science divorced from the heart will be misinterpreted by a mind that is afraid to comprehend its own essential knowing

Workshop #160): UTILIZING VISUALIZATION TO FACILITATE INNER TRANSFORMATION

Dr Allen L Roland will demonstrate three visualizations he utilizes in his transformational counseling practice which greatly facilitates the inner healing process by opening the heart ~ without which no true healing can occur.

Obviously, as Carl Sagan wrote ~ "The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena."

We are, indeed, a small planet attached to a medium sized star that is one of 200 billion stars in our Galaxy ~ a Galaxy so large that it takes our sun star 200 million years to complete one cycle. And our Galaxy is one of millions of galaxies.

So what about all that unaccounted for space ?

Scientists have predicted that space is filled with an invisible field that gives particles their mass. They've dubbed it the Higgs field. In 1966 Peter Higgs (University of Edinburgh) proposed that the universe was full of a field called a HIGGS FIELD. Disturbances in this field as particles move through it cause objects to have mass.

The field consists of countless Higgs particles ( called Bosons ) that act like a kind of cosmic molasses that fills all of space. As objects move through space they have to 'wade' through these Higgs particles that 'cling' to them, causing a drag that shows up as mass.

A cosmic quantum field of molasses ~ give me a break !

And scientists, of course, are all hot on the trail to find this elusive particle and spending millions of dollars in the process.

The July 2005 issue of Scientific America features this search in a lead article entitled The Mysteries of Mass ~ where they announce "Scientists are hunting for an elusive particle that would reveal the presence of a new kind of field that permeates all of reality."

But once again, scientists are only looking without, through one eye, for an external physical particle and will never discover this elusive field unless they look through their other subjective eye and acknowledge the within of things and the universal urge to unite.

In other words, we are not all floating around in a static and disconnected Higgs quantum field of molasses but, instead, are all swimming in a Roland field of love, connection and soul consciousness ~ that permeates the universe.

Sound too far out ?

Dr. John Hagelin, one of the world's leading pioneers of theoretical physics also believes that the long sought for Unified field is a state of consciousness ~ as he stated in the Summer 1993 issue of Mind-Body connection:

" If you scratch below the surface and get to the molecular atomic and sub-atomic worlds, you find that these worlds are not material worlds. They are worlds of intelligence and ultimately worlds of consciousness."

What if infinite love ~ and not the speed of light ~ was the absolute constant of the Universe ?

What if all things were contained within this field which exists beyond time and space and reveals itself in its universal urge to unite ?

That would mean that love and joy reside deepest within us ~ even beneath our deepest fear and despair.

My own personal experience and work as a psychotherapist has demonstrated this great truth ~ a truth that all human beings sense and respond to at their deepest level of consciousness.

As such, love not only has mass but permeates and unites the universe.

Teilhard de Chardin knew this truth well.

Whereas Einstein was concerned with the without of things, Teilhard was concerned with the within of things . Teilhard used the term ' within ' to denote the psychic face or consciousness of matter, since the beginning of time, which reveals itself in its innate urge to unite.

Teilhard defined this inner urge to unite as an energy force in his famous law of complexity-consciousness .

The law states two principles:

Throughout all time there has been an evolutionary tendency for all matter to unite and become increasingly complex in nature.
With each increase in material complexity there is a related rise in the consciousness of matter.
Teilhard divided this fundamental energy into two distinct components: a TANGENTIAL energy which linked the element with all others in the same order and a RADIAL energy which represented the innate urge toward union and greater complexity as well as a leap in consciousness.

It is this radial energy in matter, this deep urge towards union and completion, which eventually manifests itself as LOVE.

That is why love is the threshold to another universe of consciousness ~ and all who fully love know this great truth as I most certainly do.

As such, Teilhard's RADIAL energy is one in the same with the Unified field ~ which saturates the universe in its all pervading glory.

What name should we give, always in relation to our system, to this physico-moral energy of personalization to which all activities displayed by the stuff of the universe are finally reduced ?

Only one name is possible, if we are to credit it with the generality and power that it should assume on rising to the cosmic order: LOVE.

The physical structure of the universe is LOVE.

Now all we need is a recognized physicist to question the limitations of the quantum Higgs Field of static molasses.

Dr. Wulf von Bonin does just that in his brilliant paper The Picture of Current Cosmology and Questions to it .

In his section Problems with the "Higgs Field" Bonin writes;

" If the "Higgs field" is rich in energy, enables expansion, materializes itself in particles of heavy masses, and is able to mediate masses for other particles, it has to be already "dimensional". It already possesses the characteristics of cosmic dimensions. It has to develop historically from a universal and non-dimensional basic status and this status has to differ significantly from the "Higgs field".

And there you have it ~ the Roland field of love and soul consciousness differs significantly from the Higgs Field because its driving cosmic dimension is the universal urge to unite which permeates the universe and also exists deepest within ourselves.

THE INTERNET IS THE FUTURE OF MASS COMMUNICATION AND THE FUTURE IS HERE

To understand the nature of the universe in which we live, we must also include the evidence of our subjective inner experience. In other words, true science must include the journey of the heart toward knowing truth ~ William James

William James, the great 20th century philosopher/scientist, profoundly observed that the science of the future must depend upon what he called a "radical empiricism."

In other words, our journey to understand the history of the universe, we know , must not depend only on our five senses and our scientific instruments. A genuine Unified Field theory must combine the objective observations of the scientist and the subjective knowing or consciousness of the mystic.

"To understand the nature of the universe in which we live, we must also include the evidence of our subjective inner experience. In other words, true science must include the journey of the heart toward knowing truth."

In other words, If we cannot find truth within ourselves, or trust the inner knowing that is the essence of our true self, ~ we can never fashion a reliable science. For a science divorced from the heart will be misinterpreted by a mind that is afraid to comprehend its own essential knowing ~ much as Bose & Einstein misinterpreted the obvious attraction of light photons as "a spooky tendency to want to travel together" when, in reality, they had found the Unified Field ~ whose principle property, which effects atoms, photons and even galaxies, is the urge to unite.

It is Teilhard de Chardin, the Jesuit priest, paleontologist and explorer of the soul, whose life's work was the reinterpretation of christianity in the light of evolution, who stands impatiently at the summit of man's quest for the ultimate truth ~ proclaiming to all that this primal urge to unite is god and love.

As such, God is love, the ultimate life force ~ an evolutionary process with which we all participate as co-creators.

To Teilhard, not only is love the most universal, the most powerful and the most mysterious of the cosmic forces ~ but it is also the primal and universal physic energy.

And it is Teilhard who wrote in his last unpublished work "Le Christique" ( The Promised Land ) of the inevitable consequences when this truth appears: "Sooner or later there will be a chain reaction ~ for the truth has to appear only once, in one single mind, for it to be impossible for anything ever to prevent it from spreading universally and setting everything ablaze ."

By fully surrendering to love that truth has not only appeared in my mind but I prove it every day, as a psychotherapist, by jump starting my clients hearts. I do that by having them take responsibility for love, rather than running away from it, and healing themselves in the process.

As such,Teilhard's truth can be summed up with this axiom;

The basic underlying and uniting force of the universe is a psychic energy field of love and soul consciousness ( The Unified Field ) which lies not only beyond time and space but ALSO beneath our deepest fears.

Nobel physicist, Erwin Schrodinger believed that mind by its very nature is singular and one ~ that consciousness is not confined to separate, individual brains ~ that it is ultimately a Unified Field.

Noted Physicist John Hagelin wrote in 1993 ~ "If you scratch below the surface and get to the molecular atomic and sub-atomic worlds , you find that these worlds are not material worlds. They are worlds of intelligence and ultimately worlds of consciousness"

My work is, in essence, the reinterpretation of Teilhard de Chardin in light of the current coming together of mankind ~ as it slowly surrenders to its innate urge to unite and makes a painful shift from ego consciousness to soul consciousness.

As an example of our present need for a 'radical empiricism' let's use the before mentioned Bose-Einstein Condensate .

Bose and Einstein discovered evidence of a primordial urge to unite existing even within the subatomic particles of energy that make up light, but they were blinded to the implications of their discovery by "scientific" prejudice.

Picture, if you will, some gigantic scientist peering through his trusty microscope at you and your lover ~ someone you have chosen to spend your life with ~ and dismissing your deep soul connection and union as a mere "spooky tendency" to want to travel together.

Has this scientist seen the full picture of you? Or has he missed an important subjective part of the picture?

And if so, was there a glitch in his microscope, or were his perceptions limited because of his preconceived beliefs or his state of consciousness ?

Clearly, our beliefs and level of consciousness as observers determines our ability to accurately comprehend what we observe . It also determines the degree to which we consciously experience the Unified Field of love. An open heart , as such, is as important for accurate scientific inquiry as is a powerful microscope ~ if not more important.

It is only through the heart that one sees clearly ~ what is essential is invisible to the human eye.

Science will surely remain one-eyed and lacking in depth-perception until it acknowledges the equal validity of subjective, sensory and spiritual experience. And it will continue to record the letter of mere mechanics, and miss the true spirit that brings it all to life, until it comes to recognize the universal urge to unite ~ even within the molecule itself ~ as being the universal attractive force of love.

No one describes this scientific impasse more tellingly than Lincoln Barnett, author of The Universe and Dr. Einstein:

"A theoretical concept is emptied of content to the degree that it is divorced from sensory experience ~ for the only world man can truly know is the world created for him by his senses. Beyond that point he stares into the void ."

We are rapidly reaching the point where psychology, science and religion are all becoming aware of the growing need for a radical empiricism.

Let me use the findings of the recent Nobel Prize winning researchers , Politzer, Gross and Wilczek, to prove my point. They won the 2004 Nobel prize in physics for their studies of the " strong Force " ~ the powerful and mysterious energy that holds the nuclei of atoms together.

They explained the mystifying qualities of the strong force, which holds together the fundamental building blocks of nature, called QUARKS, to form protons and neutrons ~ two of the basic components of atoms.

Now, this is when it gets interesting.

Independently, they developed the theory and the mathematical equations to show that Quarks are held together by the strong force which, unlike any other force in the universe, gets stronger as the quarks get farther apart ~ a concept now known as "Asymptotic Freedom".

The simplest analogy is to a rubber band encircling two objects. When the objects are close together, the rubber band fits loosely. But as they are drawn apart, the rubber band stretches, trying to pull them back together.

Now, here is my take on these findings as applied to my Unified Field of Love and Soul Consciousness.

The strong force in the atom is the urge to unite which is the principle property of my Unified Field. It is the same urge to unite that Bose and Einstein found when they discovered that photons (light particles) have a tendency to travel together versus act randomly ~ which eventually led to the discovery of the laser.

It is also the same urge to unite that Teilhard de Chardin speaks of when he wrote ~ If there were no real propensity to unite , even at a prodigiously rudimentary level, indeed, in the molecule itself ~ it would be physically impossible for love to appear higher up in the ' hominized ' or human form.

It is also the same urge to unite that loved ones feel when they are separated from each other ~ and the further apart the stronger the pull to be back together.

Since I'm a twin, I can really relate to this urge to unite when I was sometimes separated from my twin in early childhood.

This would also seemingly explain how the urge to unite would increase as the Universe continues to expand.

As such, it is a force that is stronger than Gravity!

Thus, the one constant of the universe would no longer be light at 186,000 miles per second for even light particles ( photons ) are subject to this force field of love ~ this driving urge to unite which exists not only beyond time and space but also deepest within ourselves.

And this would also explain why mankind is in the process of uniting while we seemingly are dividing and pulling away from each other.

And finally, on an individual level , it would explain the power of love, altruism and social cooperation and how we can no longer resist our innate pull and urge to unite versus separate.

Then we have Mike Purton, writing in the Guardian on 12/02/04 of the greatest religious discovery of the 20th century:

"Physicists call it entanglement, and it describes the state of two or more particles once they have interacted with one another. From then on, irrespective of time and space, a correlation will always exist between them. What happens to one will affect the other - even if they are now at opposite ends of the universe ...For if matter emerged from energy in the singularity of the big bang, it would seem to follow that all the particles of which it consists are in that state of correlation. They have not become entangled, but at the fundamental level they have never been - and can never be - separated."

In summary ~ the great dawning and, I would add, inevitable realization of psychology, science and religion is that our separateness is an illusion measured by the state of our consciousness and that our ultimate reality, once again measured by the state of our consciousness, is the realization that we are all united and part of a loving and indivisible whole ~ and we resist it at our peril.

As such, those who we love deeply become part of us forever. Starting with my twin and beloved grandfather ~ every person I have deeply loved still lives in my heart . A thread of love that exists beyond time and space.

Or, as Longfellow so eloquently writes, "The thread of all sustaining beauty that runs through all and doth all unite "

The workshop will be experiential in nature and will involve guided visualization with shared experience.
